About FRP
Fiberglass Reinforced Plastics — the material behind our durable, lightweight architectural products, engineered for Ghana's tropical climate.
What is FRP?
FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastics) is a composite material made from a polymer matrix reinforced with fiberglass fibers. Renowned for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and design flexibility, it's an ideal choice for architectural finishing products in tropical environments.
At SD Composites, FRP is the foundation of our planter collections, murals, fountains, and specialty installations — all handcrafted in Accra for Ghana's most beautiful homes and commercial spaces.
Why FRP Outperforms
Traditional Materials
In Ghana's tropical climate — with high heat, humidity, and UV exposure — material selection is critical. FRP excels where others fail.
Strength & Durability
Exceptional strength suitable for demanding structural and decorative applications — built to last decades, not years.
Corrosion Resistance
Inherently resistant to chemicals, moisture, and environmental factors. Performs consistently in Ghana's tropical heat and heavy rains.
Lightweight
Despite its high strength, FRP is lightweight — easy to handle, transport, install, and relocate compared to concrete or stone.
Design Flexibility
FRP can be molded into virtually any shape or size, allowing for intricate designs and fully customized solutions for any project.
Low Maintenance
Requires minimal upkeep compared to timber, metal, or concrete — reducing lifecycle costs while maintaining a pristine appearance.
UV Resistant
Our FRP formulations include UV stabilizers that prevent fading and surface degradation — colors stay vivid through years of sun exposure.
Built for Tropical Conditions
Timber warps and rots in humidity. Metal rusts and corrodes. Standard plastics degrade under intense UV. FRP was designed for exactly the conditions Ghana presents — and we've been perfecting our formulations locally for years to ensure every piece withstands the elements.
Keeping Your FRP
Products Pristine
While FRP is highly durable, a little care goes a long way. Follow these simple tips to maximize the lifespan of your investment.
-
1
Regular Cleaning
Clean FRP surfaces periodically with mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that may dull the surface finish.
-
2
Avoid Heavy Impact
Handle with care during transportation and repositioning. Minor chips can be repaired with a gel coat repair kit.
-
3
UV Protection (Optional)
For outdoor pieces in direct sun, applying a UV-protective wax coating once or twice a year extends the life of the finish.
-
4
Periodic Inspection
Check for any surface cracks or chips occasionally. Catching minor damage early prevents it from becoming a larger issue.
